1990
Umlazi, Durban
February 1990, the streets full of people celebrating Mandela walking free. A taxi hit me in that crowd. My left arm never worked properly again, so I learned to mix with my right hand, and I still do.

The road, in my words

1990
February 1990, the streets full of people celebrating Mandela walking free. A taxi hit me in that crowd. My left arm never worked properly again, so I learned to mix with my right hand, and I still do.

2003
The Red Bull Music Academy came to Cape Town and picked me. Two weeks with people who took this as seriously as I did, and I went home thinking this could actually be a life.

Soulistic
Nobody was queueing to sign what I made, so I started Soulistic Music and put the records out myself. Home Brewed, Africa Rising, Pieces Of Me, all of them came out on my own label.

2022
Subconsciously came out in February 2021. In April 2022 it won Best Dance/Electronic Album.

07.10.2023
New York, in the round, my face on the ring screen above the decks. I was the first South African DJ to headline the Garden. Thirty three years after that crowd in Umlazi.
Since 1990
Two records off Subconsciously, both playing at once. Press start, then drag the fader with one finger and blend Msaki into Delilah. That fader is most of my job.

Deck A
Wish You Were Herefeat. Msaki

Deck B

Thirty second previews from Apple Music. The full songs are on the album below.
The Grammy record, Ultra Records, February 2021
Tap any song and thirty seconds of it plays right here, with the name of whoever is singing it written across the room. Usher, Pharrell, Msaki, Celeste, Diplo. My sixth album, and the one that won the Grammy.

Boiler Room, 1:02:18
Boiler Room came to South Africa and I got to play for my own people.
03
Tomorrowland 2018
Belgium, under the lasers. Tomorrowland put the set on their channel.
04
DJ Mag, 1:55:17
Ibiza at golden hour, close enough to touch the crowd.
05
NPR Music
Tiny Desk came home with me in lockdown. The quietest set I have ever played.
On the road
Beyond the booth
01 / Durban and beyond

The foundation looks after people living with disability and people with nothing in South Africa. Education first, then independence, then a way back into everyday life.
The foundation02 / The parties

Music Is King is the collective and the parties: creative people who love this music the way I do, in one room with the records.
Music Is King03 / The stage

A stage I built to carry South African DJs out into the world. Music made in Africa is world class, and the people who make it should be the ones carrying it.
Africa Is Not A Jungle04 / The company

Flightmode holds the content, the apps and the early bets I have made since 2017. The business side of staying independent.
FlightmodeThe last word
I say it at every show and I will keep saying it. The music that comes out of Durban and Soweto belongs on the biggest stages in the world, played by us. Come and hear it.
